Projects:

It's funny how priorities change, isn't it? Things we are sure are of major importance to us can shrink overnight. My name is Erik Hemingway and a few weeks ago I had an opportunity to help someone I'd never met. His name is Jimmy and he and his family are building a house in Cartago, Costa Rica. He has been working on the project for two years and has been dealing with some health problems as well. Needless to say, he's behind on time and budget.

My friend, Bill Bishop, invited me and my son, Levi, to help with wiring Jimmy's house for electrical. It was a great experience for both of us! It's always a joy for me to work with my son and watch/show him how to do things, but this was different. Instead of doing some project around our house, we were getting to help someone else. What better way to get your eyes off of yourself and your perceived problems than to focus on someone else.

It never ceases to amaze me, how you go out thinking you're going to "bless" someone with a project and you wind up feeling blessed. I guess that's why it's commanded to love your neighbor as yourself, and thus fulfill the whole intent of the Torah! Thanks Bill and Angie for the opportunity, we'll remember this for years!
